Despite suffering injuries in the process, a 12-year-old boy is being praised and recognized as a hero after saving his brothers from a savage dog attack. Deacon Ashmore, a sixth-grader, was out on a stroll with his two sisters, his brother, and other family members in their Detroit neighborhood when two vicious dogs suddenly charged up to them.

Deacon moved in front of his siblings without thinking to shield them from the oncoming hounds. Deacon’s brother, 5, his sisters, 9, and 7, as well as other children who were playing outdoors at the time, were all attacked by the two dogs. When Deacon moved in front of them, his siblings and other kids were able to flee, but as a result, he was mauled by the dogs.
Deacon “jumped in front of all the other kids and made sure they could go home extremely fast before the dogs caught them,” according to his mother Elisabeth Ashmore, according to MSN News.
One of the dogs had its teeth on Deacon’s leg and he had to punch it until it released itself.

There was a visible bone and a lot of blood on his leg, but happily no shattered bones were involved. The main worry, according to his mother, was if any ligament or tendon damage existed. His father continued by saying that the injuries may have been considerably worse if it had been a few millimeters in a different direction.
Deacon was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where he underwent surgery to heal his dog bite wounds and was given vaccinations for tetanus and rabies.

He spent the night in the hospital before being let go the next day. For a few weeks, he was supposed to walk on crutches. To assist the family with Deacon’s medical expenses, a GoFundMe campaign was created, and more over $25,000 was raised. The attack that took place in May was this one. Deacon’s father also noted that his son’s top priority throughout the incident was whether his siblings returned home safely, displaying his selflessness and bravery.
The event serves as a reminder of the value of proper dog ownership and the necessity to take legal action against owners who let their dogs go uncontrolled and perhaps cause harm to others.
