Scotty McCreery’s 2-Year-Old Son Melts Hearts Singing a George Strait Classic as the Country Star Passes His Love for Music to the Next Generation

The Next Generation Is Being Instilled With A Love For Country Music By Scotty McCreery

Scotty McCreery, a recent Grand Ole Opry member and former American Idol champion, is introducing his son to his passion for country music.

In 2018, Scotty wed Gabi, and in October 2022, the couple welcomed Merrick Avery McCreery, a son. The names of their sons have deep significance: Avery honors Avery County, where Scotty and Gabi reside, and Merrick is derived from his maternal grandfather.

The singer of “Five More Minutes” frequently posts videos of his son, Avery, and himself. It’s wonderful to watch the father-son team grow closer through activities like singing along in the vehicle and playing golf.

Fatherhood has also inspired Scotty’s music, as evidenced by the release of songs like “Porch” and “Love Like This,” which were composed with his young son in mind.

George Strait Sung by Avery McCreery

Scotty and Avery are seen in what looks to be a home recording studio in a cute video that was posted on social media. The toddler sings with his adorable tiny voice:

“Pardon me, but I believe you have my chair.”

Those who are passionate about country music will know that this is the first lyric of George Strait’s 1985 smash song, “The Chair.” The song was certified platinum by the RIAA and peaked at number one on the country charts in both the US and Canada. Furthermore, “The Chair” came in at number 24 on CMT’s list of the Top 100 Country Songs of All Time.

Avery’s exposure to the classics is evident in the video. As a child, Scotty remembers listening to artists like Conway Twitty, George Jones, and Merle Haggard.

“Who sings that song?” he asks his son.

Avery gives the unambiguous response, “George Strait.”
