When a young girl claimed to have seen a man in a mask beneath her bed, no one took her account seriously until they looked at the film from the security camera.
It was a typical evening. The gentle glow of streetlights illuminated the city’s streets as people hurried about their daily lives—some were conversing beside a store, some were walking dogs, and yet others were returning home from work. On the sidewalk, a gray SUV with the distinctive stripe of a police patrol was driving slowly. Kowalev and Melnikova, two cops, were inside.
Kowalev looked out the window and yawned, “Silence tonight.”
Melnikova grinned and said, “I wish it were always like this, but usually this calm is just the eye of the storm.”
A young child, no older than five, rushed out of one of the buildings’ entrances before she could continue speaking. Blond hair, barefoot, bunny-adorned jammies. Her expression was filled with panic.
She dashed in the direction of the patrol car. The officers leaped out as Kowalev applied the brakes.
— Hello, how are you? — Melnikova knelt before the young woman.
“You’re police, aren’t you?” the girl exclaimed.
Yes, dear. What took place?
– A man is beneath my bed. He has on a mask. I caught a glimpse of him.
Kowalev winced. — Where are your parents?
Mom is currently in the restroom. She told me not to frighten her when I yelled at her.
The officers looked at each other. The girl’s eyes were shaking with fright, but it appeared to be a child’s fantasy.
— How did he appear? — Melnikova inquired softly.
— Black attire. Put on a ninja mask. He was slithering beneath the bed when I woke up. He believed me to be asleep.
— And you fled? — Kowalev inquired.
Indeed. Immediately. After hiding in the closet, I noticed your automobile outside the window.
All right, Melnikova gave a nod. — Let’s go see. Better to be certain.
The third story was where the apartment was located. They were reassured by the girl’s mother, a terrified and ashamed woman in a robe, that she hadn’t heard anything and believed her daughter was simply afraid of the dark.
The mother apologized, saying, “Recently, she frequently says that something hides in the corner.” — Her imagination is quite active.
The cops used their spotlights to look around the room. There was nothing beneath the bed.
The girl at the door muttered, “Perhaps he ran away.” — However, I did see him. Sincerely!
Kowalev opened his mouth to joke, but Melnikova gestured him away.
Hold on. We should examine the cams. The girl exudes too much confidence. This cannot be made up.
Everyone was astonished by what they saw in the video.
The entire situation became a true thriller after seeing the street cameras. A robbery in a nearby building was captured on camera approximately fifteen minutes prior to the girl’s appearance on the street. With bags in their hands, two thieves dressed in black fled out the door.
One of them saw the patrol car during the chase, turned the corner abruptly, and then climbed the drainpipe and slipped through a slightly open window into the third-floor flat, which was exactly where the girl lived, according to footage captured by another camera.
He’s there. Melnikova let out a sigh. — And she was just a minute away from running to us at this point.
The man on the other side of the building jumps out of the window of the flat and vanishes into the yard in the following footage.
The following day, the offender was apprehended; his accomplice was taken into custody at night and surrendered him in exchange for a reduced punishment.
