When 17-year-old Daniel Joyner walked onto the America’s Got Talent stage in 2016, he looked like an ordinary high school student. But the moment he started singing Otis Redding’s “Try a Little Tenderness,” it became clear that there was something very different about him.
Daniel, from Tennessee, had a deep, mature voice that seemed far beyond his years. Although he was nervous and a little stiff at first, the judges quickly recognized his potential. Simon Cowell praised his voice and encouraged him to step outside his comfort zone, while the other judges also gave him their approval.
Daniel received four yeses and advanced in the competition. He eventually made it all the way to the quarterfinals of Season 11.
