When 20-year-old Rebecca Strong stepped onto the Canada’s Got Talent stage in 2024, she had no idea that her life was about to change forever.
The young Indigenous singer from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, had grown up surrounded by music. Her father, a musician himself, had introduced her to singing when she was just a little girl.
But performing in front of millions of viewers was an entirely different experience.
Rebecca admitted that she was nervous. However, she believed that feeling nervous was simply a sign of how much the opportunity meant to her.
And she was about to prove that she belonged on that stage!
For her audition, Rebecca chose Demi Lovato’s emotional ballad “Stone Cold.”
From the opening notes, her voice immediately captured the audience’s attention.
As the song progressed, Rebecca unleashed an extraordinary combination of powerful vocals, raw emotion, and impressive high notes.
Her performance wasn’t just about hitting the right notes. Every word seemed to come straight from her heart.
The judges watched in amazement as the young singer poured everything she had into the song.
By the time she finished, the audience erupted into applause!
But the most emotional moment of the night was still to come.
When judge Lilly Singh asked Rebecca what winning the competition would mean to her, the young singer gave an answer that touched everyone’s hearts.
Instead of talking about expensive cars, luxury houses, or fame, Rebecca explained that she wanted to help her family.
Most importantly, she dreamed of giving her father the opportunity to retire.
Her parents were sitting in the audience, watching their daughter pursue the dream they had supported for so many years.
It was a beautiful moment that revealed just how much family meant to her.
Then something incredible happened.
Lilly Singh stood up and pressed the GOLDEN BUZZER!
Golden confetti rained down as Rebecca burst into tears, overwhelmed by the realization that her dream was coming true.
The Golden Buzzer sent her directly to the next stage of the competition and came with a $25,000 prize.
But Rebecca’s incredible journey didn’t end there.
She continued to impress audiences throughout the season, eventually reaching the grand finale.
And in an extraordinary ending to her story, Rebecca Strong WON Canada’s Got Talent 2024, taking home the $1 million grand prize!
From a nervous young singer with a dream of helping her father to a national talent-show champion, Rebecca proved that determination, passion, and family support can lead to extraordinary things.
