Many people view a new year as an opportunity to advance in their personal or professional life. However, Pat Smith, a 70-year-old ecoactivist, spent her whole year working to clean up the beaches in her own Cornwall and Devon. Smith spent a full year cleaning 52 beaches, using a bundle of waste bags, rubber gloves, and a special stick for picking up debris. Although Smith’s commitment to the environment is praiseworthy, her actions also have a positive impact on her health. She jokingly suggested that instead of paying for fitness classes, folks should clean up the beaches with her.

Not only is it free, but it also promotes environmental sustainability and keeps one in shape. It is uncommon for one individual to do so much in so little time. But Smith’s commitment to sanitizing the beaches in her hometown should serve as an example to all of us. It serves as a reminder that little things that many people do together can make a tremendous difference in the world. Smith’s work is a brilliant illustration of the value of environmental preservation as well as the influence of individual action.

Her commitment to sprucing up the beaches in Cornwall and Devon has improved their aesthetic appeal and contributed to their preservation for future generations. Take a cue from Smith and let’s all work to improve the environment in our own unique ways.
