Every night the cat woke her owner and forced her out of the bedroom 😢😲 She thought the cat had mental problems… until one visit to the vet revealed a terrifying truth.
I’m a veterinarian, and people call me about everything. But Anna’s voice immediately stood out — she sounded exhausted, like someone who hadn’t slept in months.
— Hello… my cat won’t let me sleep.
Anna, about fifty-five, carefully placed the carrier on the table.
— Her name is Luna. My husband chose it. But at night she’s not Luna — she’s an alarm clock with claws.
Inside sat a large gray cat with calm eyes.
— Every night around 3 or 4 a.m. she wakes me up, — Anna explained. — First she gently taps my face. If I ignore her, she scratches, bites, pulls the blanket off me… until I leave the bedroom. And the moment I go sleep on the couch — she takes my pillow and calmly sleeps until morning.
This had been happening for three months.
I examined the cat. Perfectly healthy.
Then I asked Anna one question:
— How do you feel when she wakes you?
— My heart races… my mouth goes dry… sometimes I feel like I can’t breathe.
At that moment I realized with horror that the cat had no mental problems at all… and something far more frightening might be happening 😢🫣
I told Anna that Luna might actually be reacting to changes in her breathing and heartbeat during sleep.
A week later Anna called again.
The tests showed high blood sugar and serious heart problems, and doctors discovered that her breathing sometimes stopped at night.
If Luna hadn’t woken her up… Anna might never have known.
Now she’s receiving treatment and sleeping better. And Luna?
She still comes at night — but now she just curls up beside her and purrs softly. 🐱
